The Chicago Fire put an end to D.C. United's reign over Major League Soccer, using the creative playmaking of Peter Nowak and steady goalkeeping of Zach Thornton to claim a 2-0 victory in MLS Cup '98 before 51,350 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Home opener & ring ceremony scheduledCHICAGO — The 1998 MLS Cup Champions and 1998 U.S. Open Cup Champions, the Chicago Fire, will play their home opener for the 1999 MLS season on Saturday, April 10 @ 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Soldier Field against the Dallas Burn. The championship ring ceremony will precede kickoff.
